出発点＝ただ受ける。
JCFNは、Urbana90で『神様からの導きとうながしを感じ、ただそれを受けた』クリスチャンになったばかりの大学生が、そこで出会った何人かの仲間と始めたものです。学生が学生に声をかけ、学生に伝道して
いるホストファミリーが関わり、ミニストリーや教会が関わり・・・。こうやって広がっていった草の根的な動きは、今も大切にしているJCFNの特徴のひとつです。
私も学生の時に、始まったばかりのJCFNを知り、会報の発送作業や集会の受付なら手伝えると思い関わり始めました。いずれ自分がスタッフになるなんて夢にも思っていませんでした！今回証が掲載されている嘉山さん
も同じです。一歩進んだときは、その先に何があるかは分かりませんでした。ただ、その一歩を踏み出すことは神様にあって正しいことが明白だったので、その『神様からの導きとうながしを感じ、それをただ受けた』ので
す。今回また嘉山さんは新たな一歩へと進んでいくことになりました。嘉山さんをJCFNの働きに送ってくださった神様に感謝します。また、この場をかりて、嘉山さんならびにご家族を支えてくださった教会と支える会
の方々に心からの感謝とお礼を伝えたいと思います。ありがとうございました！彼の今後の神学校での歩み、また、その後が祝福されますように祈ります。これからも形は変わりますが引き続き共に帰国者フォローアップの
働きのために仕えることができることを期待します。
Calling、召しを知り従う
さて、JCFNが最近連呼している４Cがありますが、これらは、JCFNの目的である「海外経験クリスチャンを宣教のために整える」ため、各々が持つ必要のある要素です。「Calling」＝神様の召し。「Cha
racter」＝日々、キリストに似た者と変えられ続けること。「Commission」＝キリストの弟子を作る者となること。そして最後のCは、キリストの体である「Community」につながるということで
す。
私たちの救いの目的は、ただ天国に行くことだけではありません。もしそうならば、救われた瞬間に天国に引き上げられているはずです。しかし、私たちが今この地上に存在しているということは何らかの存在目的があると
いうことなのです。その目的を各々が知ること、それが一つ目のC、Calling、神様の召しを知るということです。そして、『神様からの導きとうながしを感じ、それをただ受ける』ときに神様サイズの働きを見るこ
とができるのです！
Calling、召しに従うためには、「未知」や自分の「無能」に対して「信仰と信頼」で立ち向かって行く必要があります。また、能力を含む自分の限界を認め、神様に委ね、人に助けを求めなくてはなりません。主に
従うということはそれはそれは「危険」な冒険なのです。そしてこの危険な旅路は『神様からの導きとうながしを感じ、それをただ受ける』一歩からのみ始まるのです。
「新帰国者のフォローアップの充実化」
3月末に年に一度の合同主事会が東京で開かれました。協力主事も正式に加わり、総勢11名での主事会でした。多くの祈りに支えられ無事に守られたことをご報告いたします。
さて、スモールグループ（SG）を通しての帰国者のフォローアップがはじまってから3年目になろうとしています。SGは、帰国者にとって安全な着地場所とでもいえましょうか。逆カルチャー経験がいかなるものか、言
葉で言わずとも分かってくれる経験者のいるSGは、彼らにとって大きな励ましであり支えです。帰国経験をプロセスできる場所を帰国者に提供することで、彼らの信仰は守られ、励まされ、成長させられます。SGを通し
てのフォローアップの素晴らしさと効率の良さを経験してきているので、更に力が入ります。現在日米あわせてSGが37個あり、約72名が参加しています。SGの目標達成率はまだ37％です。
昨年度は何とか帰国者にSGを紹介したいと思い、興味深いトピックを取り扱ったセミナーを行い、そこでSGを紹介し、その良さを体験してもらって参加者を募りましたが、まだまだ帰国者とSGをつなげる道のりは長い
ようです。日本でSGに新しく加わった人たちは20数名いますが昨年度フォローアップをした日本への移動者120名から直接SGにつながった人は数人でした。帰国者のいるところにSGがなく、SGを始めたい人のと
ころに帰国者が帰らない・・・そのような現実もあります。
今年度の日本側の目標は、「新帰国者のフォローアップの充実化」です。新しく帰国する人たちをSGへ、また交わりへとつなげていくために年間活動を作っていきます。そして帰国した人が帰国直後から、キリストの交わ
りに属し、成長し続け、『神様からの導きとうながしを感じ、それをただ受ける』歩みをすることができるようにと心から願い、祈ります。

リーダーシップ･デベロップメントの促進
同じJCFNのミニストリーですが、海のどちらかにいるかで、アプローチは大きく異なります。今年のアメリカのビジョンは、「リーダーシップ･デベロップメントの促進」です。
「魚を与えるのではなく、魚を釣る方法を教える」というフレーズを聞いたことがあると思いますが、日本語伝道の働きが全米に広がっており、日本語教会や集会がないところでは、若いクリスチャンであってもリードを任
されます。そして、私たちの周りには非常に素晴らしい若いリーダーたちが送られてきているのです。彼らは信仰暦の長さに関係なく、キリストの弟子を作る弟子になることを学び、成長することを心から願っている人たち
です。いずれ日本に主が遣わしてくださると期待しつつ、今の訓練が必要だと自覚しています。彼らの素直さ、情熱に感動し励まされるのと同時に、御言葉による土台を確立する必要を感じます。また、彼らのキリストにあ
る熱い思いが、単に思いだけでとどまるのでなく、実際の生活の実として、教会、学校や職場、家族、友人の間で実るときに、帰国者が日本と世界の変化をもたらす原動力となると心から確信します。
「整えられた帰国者」を日本に送り返すために、リーダーシップ・デベロップメントに取り組む一つの活動としてWITというキャンプを始めましたが、今年は、去年の参加者の何人かが教える側となって私たちと一緒に準
備をしています。WITでリーダーを育てるリーダーが育てられ、全米各地でリーダーを育てていくリーダーが育てられるようにと願っています。
Ecもリーダー育成のための機会が豊富ですが、その他の活動もリーダーシップデベロップメント促進を目標に作られていく予定です。
今年のJCFNも期待と希望に満ち溢れています。特に2009年3月20-22日に行われるAll Nations Returnees Conference（ANの記事参照。）には、大きな期待を持っています。ぜひ、お祈りに覚えてくださり、参加してくださいますようお願いします。
皆さんの『神様からの導きとうながしを感じ、それをただ受ける』一歩は何ですか？ぜひ、その一歩を踏み出してください。それは、聖書を読むことかもしれません。誰かのために祈ることかもしれません。証を両親に送る
ことかもしれません。何かのミニストリーに、会報の発送作業や集会の受付で関わることかも知れません。いずれにしろ、主はあなたの一歩を喜び、祝し、導いてくださいます。そして、私たちは、神様規模の業を見ること
ができるようになるのです。
JCFNもその「一歩」を踏み出す機会をみなさんに提供したいと願っています。以下に、具体的にJCFNで関わることのできる奉仕の可能性を書き出しましたので、覚えてお祈りくださり、興味のあるものがありました
ら、ぜひ、ご連絡ください。お待ちしています。

2008年度理事会(4月21～23日、ウインザー、カリフォルニア）

今回は理事会としては初めて全員の参加をいただきました。日本から米内、森作理事、トロントから三上理事、アトランタからレイノルズ理事、デンバーからダーストン理事、ハワイから黒田理事、サクラメントから荒井、
上沼理事、ロング・ビーチから黒田、中村主事が、サンフランシスコ経由で、北に２時間ほど行ったところの荒井理事の関係のリゾート地に集いました。遠路から駆けつけてくださった志に感謝するのみです。
昨年の主事のサポートレイズと給与体制の見直しと構築によって必要額が満たされたことの感謝から始まって、来年の３月の予定されているAll Nations Returnees Conference(AN)
に向けてJCFNが直面し、将来的に担っていく責任を中心に話し合いました。主事の経済的な必要が満たされるのは、JCFNの活動の目的が果たされるためです。財務理事がこの面で陰にあって労してくれました。来年
は財政的な面を元にしてANを中心に活動の方に比重が動くことになります。
ANは初めての試みです。全世界からの帰国者の大会を目指しています。JCFNは北米を中心とした活動ですが、日本には全世界からの帰国者が与えられています。海外経験、文化の違いを経験しながら聖書の世界を体験
しています。思わぬ困難や試練を体験しています。そして今日本に置かれています。そこに神の深い計画があると信じています。また日本の教会の益になればと願っています。JCFNとして新しい課題と責任をいただいて
います。
北米大陸では今年も昨年に続いてイクイッパー・カンファレンスがあります。「和解」から「平和」のテーマに移っています。主事の役割が多くのボランティアをまとめ、また次のリーダーを生み出していくためのものにな
ってきています。日本でもスモールグループによる交わりとリーダーの養成に重きを置いてきています。
ダーストン理事と黒田主事によってアーバナ会と呼んでいた創設期の話をしていただきました。そこには多くの犠牲があり、一粒の麦としていのちが捧げられていることがありました。それによる責任の大きさと、与えられ
ている役割の厳粛さと、将来の展望を再確認するときとなりました。 ただ感謝と祈り。（終）
退任にあたり：JCFNとの関わり

どうしてJCFNと関わるようになったのか？それは祈りの答えだと思っています。
ある時にメッセージの中でチャレンジを受けました。それはビル・ブライト氏のことばを引用しながら、｢革命（的な神の働き）に対して3種類の反応がある、それに気がつかない人、気がつくが加わらない人、そして、そ
の中に加わる人がいる｣というような内容でした｡
日本の国にリバイバルが起こるとき、それ気づかずにいたくない。知らずに生きていたくない。日本の国にリバイバルが起こるとき、それを知った時に傍観者になりたくない。外から冷ややかに見ていたくない。日本の国に
リバイバルが起こるとき、確かにその真中で生きていたい。体験したい。それが祈りであり願いでした｡神様の働かれるその真中で生きてていたい。主の御業を体験していたいと。JCFNとの出会いは、そんな祈りの答え
の一つのように思います｡
1995年のホノコン以来、少しずつJCFNと共に歩み始め、職場が都内に移動したことをきっかけに生活の中心を東京に移してからは日本事務所もまだ無く、日本で活動する主事もいない中でのボランティアを中心とし
たJCFNのミニストリーに主体的に関わるようになって行きました。
そのきっかけは、1999年に開催された帰国者カンファレンス（RC）の実行委員の一人になったことでした。高橋選哉協力主事や長谷川佳奈元事務主事、主事就任に向けてデピュテーションに入ろうとしていた尾関主事
たちと一緒にチームでミニストリーをはじめた事を思いだします。
当時、東京で行なわれていた「とりなし手の集い」はJCFN東京集会と名称も変わり、高橋さんと長谷川さんがコーディネーターとして奉仕をし、JCFN神奈川集会を佐々木宏幸さんと真美さんご夫妻がコーディネータ
ーをしていましたが、東京と神奈川の合同の集会をしたいという両集会のコーディネーターの願いの中からflame!
というJCFN東京とJCFN神奈川の合同集会が導かれ、讃美集会や宇都宮と福山への出前プロジェクトと広がりを見せて行きました。この中での賛美チームのメンバーとの出会いは今も大きな宝です｡
関西では休止状態にあった関西集会を、当時関西に生活の中心を置いていた尾関主事や現在横浜オンヌリキリスト教会の牧師として奉仕しておられる山中知義師が中心となって再開へと導かれていました。
主事不在の日本で、教会との協力関係を強化して行くためには、どうして単なるボランティアという位置付けではなく、正式にJCFNの中で位置付けられた協力者としての立場が重要になっていることを痛切に感じ、アソ
シエイト・スタッフというポジションを設定していただくことを理事会にお願いをし、2001年からはアソシエイト・スタッフとして奉仕を続けてきました。
2002年には、それまで働いていた会社の退職を導かれ、フルタイムのアソシエイト・スタッフというトリッキーなスタイルでの奉仕を続けましたが、主の不思議な導きの中で結婚に導かれ、子どもが与えられ、シングル
の時のようには時間も関心もエネルギーもJCFNのミニストリーに注ぐ事ができない、という大きな転換期を迎えました。
2004年には、主事としての召命が与えられ、祈りと経済的なサポートを募りつつ教会訪問を続けました。苦しい戦いの時でしたが、多くの祈りに支えられ2006年4月1日に就任を迎えることが出来ました。
主事就任と同じタイミングで、夫婦で神学校での学びが始まり、JCFN主事として、また神学生として、奉仕神学生として、無牧の教会のメッセンジャーとして、夫として、父親として何重もの役割と責任の中で二年間の
任期を歩んできました。
実際には就任した時から一期目が終わった後の導きを祈り始めていましたが、主事として二年目を迎える頃には、一旦神学校の学びに集中することを視野に入れはじめていました｡ここでは書ききれないくらいの戦いも葛藤
もありました｡
最終的には第一期の任期終了時点で、一旦JCFNの働きを離れて、神学校の学びに集中することを選択しました｡これまでの皆様のお祈りとご支援を心から感謝致します。
この4月からフルタイムの神学生として｢経済的な支援｣をお願いしながら新しい歩みをはじめています｡息子も4月からは近くにある教会付属の幼稚園に入園し、家族全体が新しい生活の中にあります｡
今年度後期からは基礎科を終了し専門科での学びを願っていますが、今期も幾つかの専門科のクラスを選択しながら、特に宣教学のクラスではJCFNのミニストリーに思いを巡らし、新しい目でミニストリーの評価や再検
討をしている自分を見つけています。2年後の神学校卒業を目指して学びに専念していますが、今度は新たに神学校卒業後の導きを求めながら歩みをはじめています。
今後どのような形で神様の働かれる場所で、その真中で生きることが導かれるかまだわかりませんが、新しいJCFNとの歩みが導かれる事を期待しています｡続けてお祈りと経済的なご支援をお願いできましたら感謝です

昨年度も総主事業に追いつくことに精一杯でしたが、仲間に支えられ、神様の導きの中たくさんの可能性を見せていただいて終わった一年になりました。今年も去年に引き続き出張と会議、ネットワーク作りとセミナーなど
の講師としての奉仕が待っています。リーダーシップトレーニングとec、また、日本では2009年3月のAll Nations Returnee Conferenceに向けての決起集会など、とてもエキサイティングで信仰がなければ進めない一年が始まりました！
1) 神様がなさろうとされている御業を過小評価せず、自分の能力を過大評価せず、誠実に大胆に神様についていくことができるように。
2) 神様からのビジョンとパッションをいつも新たに受け、伝え、従うことができる者として整えられるように。
3) 時間と自己管理ができるように。

２）ポジション：日本主事
日本に帰国して早4年。日本での一つ一つの働きが守られ、日本においてのJCFNの働きの広がりを見させていただいています。そのような中にあって、嘉山主事が神学校の学びに専念されるため主事の立場を退かれたた
め、働き手の必要を日々感じていますが、全ての必要を満たしてくださる主に信頼して、働きを進めて行きたいと願っています。後藤家においては、この年末に新たな命の誕生を迎える予定で、主の祝福を家族一同感じてい
ます。
1） 働き手が限られている中で、多くのことを抱えながら働きを展開しています。主からの知恵が与えられ、必要な働きを成していくことが出来るように。
2） 働き手、ボランティアが起こされるように。
3） 家族の上に主の守りがあるように。光代（妻）、恵留（長男4歳）、実麗（長女2歳）、そして、新たな命が健やかに育っていくように。

過ぎる1年新しく始まったことは会計と家を解放しての毎週のスモールグループでした。思った以上に会計には時間を費やすことになり、他のミニストリーとのバランスを取ることが大変でしたが、1年経ってようやく効率
よくできるようになって来ました。スモールグループも神様が豊かに祝福してくださり、人を集め、救いに導き、交わりから大きな収穫を得ることができました。JCFN全体のミニストリーを考えていく上で、実際に試行
錯誤できるこのような場所が与えられていることを感謝しています。今後は、夏の出産を控えているので、不在中のマニュアル整備や自宅での作業環境を整える準備のため、また、子育てとミニストリーのバランスを取りつ
つ、生活の隅から隅まで主に用いられることができるようにお祈りください。

2007年度は新しいことへのチャレンジが多かったですが、その一つ一つを通して神様の御業を体験することが出来ました。皆様のお祈りと主に支えられ奉仕が守られたことを感謝します。今年度は、5月末からの2ヶ月
間のアメリカ研修で神様が何を見せて下さるのか楽しみです！アメリカでの日々が祝されますよう、お祈りください。

社会人1年目、JCFN主事1年目、ec実行委員長1年目…、私にとっての色々な1年目が終わりました。新し物づくしの1年目は、神様が期待を持って私のことを召し出して下さっているのだということを確信させてい
ただく年でした。社会人としても主事としてもec実行委員長としても2年目の始まりました。主に在って、レベルアップした1年を送ることができるように期待しています。神様の歩調に合わせて、与えられた仲間と和気
藹々、主の働きに従順に、且つ、楽しむことができるようにお祈りください。

デピュテーションを始めてもうすぐ２年になります。当初は１年くらいで渡米して就任できるかなと考えていたのですが、神様の御計画は違いました。昨年秋よりAll Nations Returnees Conference（ＡＮ）事務局長としての奉仕を、日本で始めました。自分が考えていた道とは違いますが、この導きは神様からのものであるという100％の確信があります。今後も神様の導きに心から従うことが
できますようにお祈りください。またベストなタイミングでサポートが満たされるようにお祈りください。

感謝：
□自分が関っていたプロジェクトである新給与システムが稼動し、JCFNのインフラ整備が一歩前進したこと。

手探りの中３回目の帰国者カンファレンス、ホームカミング九州を行うことができ、主の恵み、憐れみ、希望と御業を更に知ることができ感謝でした。また準備を通し、帰国者フォローについていろいろと考えさせられた一
年でした。今後は福岡HOPを通し主の導きを祈り求め、帰国者の為にとりなしの祈りをもっと捧げていくことと、信仰から離れないようにスモールグループの促進を願っています。
１）健康が守られ、教会と帰国者ミニストリーの働きのバランスがとれて両方祝福されますように。
２）帰国者がSGやフォローしてくださる人たち、教会につながりますように。

本業とのバランスも取れて、働きが出来たことに感謝。昨年は父の葬儀にもJCFNからスタッフが来てくださり、みなさんから暖かいお言葉をいただいたこと感謝でした。スモールグループも参加者が与えられ、各リーダ
ーとも少しずつ、関係を築けてきています。今後は更に新しいグループが生まれることと、既存のグループから分かれて新しいグループが生まれることを期待しています。祈祷課題は、引き続き、本業とのバランスを保って
働きが出来るように。健康が守られるように。いつも知恵が与えられて仕事ができるように。

神様は、2007年も帰国者の集まりを続けるかどうか困難に陥った時も守ってくださり、帰国者を集められスモールグループという新しい方法で帰国者フォローアップをしてくださいました。教会に行けない人も小グルー
プという群れの中でフォローアップされて、少しずつですが前に進んでいる状態です。感謝です。祈祷課題としては、これから帰国者をフォローアップしてくださる教会とネットワークがされていくように宣教会議やIPC
Nという会議に参加させていただくことになりました。このような機会を通して、JCFNの働きを知っていただきフォローアップがネットワークでされていくようにアピールされていけばと思っていますのでぜひお祈り下
さい。

昨年より協力主事とさせていただきました。JCFN東京事務所は、KGKの事務所内からスタートして、良い交わりの時を持たせていただきました。その頃から、海外でクリスチャンになった方々の多さを知り、また帰国
後のフォローアップの大切さを知るようになりました。私自身は留学経験はありませんが、日本事務所の事務運営管理をお手伝いさせていただくことで、JCFNの交わりの中に入れていただきたいと願っています。どうぞ
、宜しくお願いします。

ANRC: 全世界からの帰国者を主な対象とし、その帰国者を送り出している各国の日本語教会･集会、また、帰国者を受入れている日本の教会、宣教団体と協力しながら開催される初めてのリトリート。同じ国・地域から帰国した仲
間と久しぶりの交流を楽しみましょう。今、近くに住んでいる海外経験者と知り合いましょう。神様の愛に励まされ、日本の教会の励ましになる。海外の邦人宣教を覚え、支えましょう。聖言を通して神様からビジョンをい
ただきましょう、様々な角度から楽しみ、意義深いリトリート。
2009年は日本のプロテスタント史150年目に当たります。でも実はディアスポラ邦人宣教（海外に離散した日本人に対する宣教）はそれよりもズーッと前から始まっていました。シンガポールで和訳聖書がはじめて刊
行されたのも、ディアスポラ邦人の仲間の協力なしにはできませんでした。
世界潮流に適合した世界を連なる邦人・アジア人の相互宣教推進として、アジアの平和と共生に向けた社会貢献が求められています。「平和と共生」への社会貢献も、ディアスポラ宣教協力により推進される必要があります
。エペソ2章は、ディアスポラ邦人が神の家族として、また神の御住まいとして前進することをすすめています。
欧米亜、オセアニア・アフリカ・南米など世界各地から帰国されたみなさま、聖言のすばらしさを思い出し、また新たに実感してください。そのすばらしいめぐみを！そして、各々のフィールドで祈りの輪をひろげて行きま
しょう！
All Nations Returnees Conference (AN) が2009年3月20～-22日に埼玉の森林公園近くのホテル・ヘリテージで開催されることになりました。テーマは、「世界の架け橋」。コロサイ1:
6がテーマ聖句です。神の恵みである福音を私たちは聞き、本当に理解するときに、すごい勢いで世界中で実を結ぶと聖書に約束されています。この受けた福音をもう一度自分のものとし、今度はその福音を携えて出て行く
ものとされたいと願います。

Following God's Call Whatever It Takes

Receiving: The Starting Point
JCFN was started by one student who "sensed God's leading and simply received it." The founding process was simple: the young man became a Christian, met with other believers at Urbana '90, and discovered the need for networking among Japanese Christians. The invitation into JCFN was extended to other students, host families, and churches, and soon JCFN was born. It was indeed a grass roots movement, which has become one of our core values.
When I was a seminary student, I learned about JCFN and became involved because I thought I could help by sending newsletters or serving as a receptionist. Who would have thought I would someday become a full-time staff member!
Shinichi, who has his testimony in this edition, has a similar story. He didn't know what his future held; he just knew that God was leading him to take the next step. He too "sensed God's leading and simply received it."
Once again, Shinichi is taking a new step forward, and I would like to give thanks to God for sending him to JCFN. We are grateful to Shinichi and his family, friends and church families who have prayed for him and supported him. Thank you! It is our prayer that his seminary studies and his immediate future would be blessed. Although he is no longer a staff, in different capacity, we look forward to continuing to serve God together for the ministry of returnees.
Knowing and Obeying God's Call
You hopefully have heard by now about the 4 C's. These four C's describe principles of what each returnee needs "to be equipped for mission": knowing and obeying God's Call; continuously being transformed to reflect Jesus' Character; being Commissioned to make disciples of Jesus; and being a part of Jesus' Community.
Our salvation is not just about obtaining a ticket to heaven. If so, when we were saved, we should have gone to heaven right away. The reason we still exist on this earth is that God still has work for us to do as we participate in His purpose. Knowing that purpose is the first C: Calling. Only when we "sense God's leading and simply receive it" will we see God-size miracles in our work here on earth.
In order to obey God's Call, we need to face the unknown and our lack of abilities with faith and trust. We also need to acknowledge our limitations, surrender them into God's hands, and ask help from our brothers and sisters. To obey our Lord is a "dangerous adventure." This "dangerous adventure" can only begin by "sensing God's leading and simply receiving it."
Improving follow-up with new returnees
We had our annual joint staff meeting in Tokyo at the end of March. We officially included our associate staff members, making 11 of us. We thank you for your prayers.
It has been three years since we first began to follow up with returnees through small group ministries. The small group is a "Safe Landing Place" for returnees. In such small groups there are other returnees who understand without explanation re-entry culture stress. For new returnees, knowing there are people who understand and identify with them proves to be great encouragement and support.
By providing the returnees with a place where they can process their returning experiences in an environment of believers, their faith is protected, encouraged, and nurtured. We have seen God at work through small group follow-up, so we want to continue pursuing this. There are 37 small groups in Japan and the U.S. with about 72 people involved. With these numbers, we have hit 37% of our goal for this year so far.
Last year, we tried to introduce small groups to the returnees, so we hosted several seminars dealing with interesting topics for returnees. The seminar attendees had opportunities to experience small groups while there, but this did not result in increasing numbers of small group participants.
Last year we followed up with more than 120 returnees, but only about 20 were able to find small groups. This was because either we didn't have small groups in the locations to which the people returned, or we began small groups in locations where returnees did not end up.
So, this year's goal for the Japan side of the ministry is "Improving follow-up of new returnees." We are eager and excited about connecting new returnees to small groups, and that is our focus when developing this year's activities.
It is our hope and prayer that new returnees would be connected to the fellowship of Christ right after their return, would continue to grow in the Lord, and would "sense God's leading and receive it".

Enhancing Leadership Development
Although it is all under the same umbrella of JCFN ministry, depending on which side of the ocean you are on, the ministry approach is very different. This year's goal on the U.S. side is "enhancing leadership development."
You have likely heard the saying, "You can give a man a fish and feed him for a day, or you can teach him how to fish and feed him for a lifetime." In many different locations throughout the U.S., there are opportunities for Japanese ministry. However, in places where there are few or no Japanese churches or fellowship, believers who are young in faith and age need to be equipped to lead.
I meet wonderful young leaders. They have been Christians for a short time, but they strongly desire to grow and to be a faithful disciple of Jesus who would in turn make more disciples. Since they know that one day the Lord will send them back to Japan, they realize their need to be equipped starting now.
Their passion and hearts encourage us so much, and we really want to give them a firm Biblical foundation. We are convinced that when their burning passion for Christ starts to bear fruit in their lives and among their church families, schools, workplaces, families, and friends, then Japan and the world will be transformed!
In order to send out "equipped Christian Returnees," we are focusing on leadership development. Last year we began WIT, a leadership training camp, and this year, we have several participants from the previous year leading and preparing the camp with us. Our hope is that through WIT, leaders will learn to develop the next generation of leaders, and when these leaders move back to Japan, this process of raising up new leaders can continue.
EC is another yearly JCFN event which future returnees attend in order to be equipped for their return to Japan. We are planning this year to focus on leadership development.
We are excited about this new year (we start in April)! Another thing we are excited about is the All Nations Returnee Conference (please see the article about this conference for more details), which will be held March 20-22, 2009. Please remember this in your prayers and come and join us!
What is your next step as you "sense God's leading and simply receive it"? I encourage you to take that step. Maybe it is to read the Bible regularly. Perhaps it is to intercede for someone or to send your testimony to your parents. Maybe it is to be involved in a ministry by helping send out the newsletter or by serving as a receptionist. Whatever it might be, God gets excited and it is His joy to see your step. He will bless you, guide you, and allow you to witness "God-size" ministry.

2008 Board Meeting Report (April 21-23 Windsor, CA)

For the first time, all the board members were present at this meeting: Rev. Yonai & Mr. Morisaku from Japan, Mr. Mikami from Toronto, Mr. Reynolds from Atlanta, Rev. Durston from Denver, Rev. Kuroda from Hawaii, Rev. Arai & Rev. Uenuma from Sacramento. Together with JCFN staff members Ms. Kuroda and Ms. Nakamura we went to a resort which Rev. Arai knows well, about two hours from Long Beach via San Francisco. We are deeply grateful for those who came such a long way.
We started the meeting with thanks for the meeting of JCFN's essential expenses last year in terms of raising the staff's support and reexamining and constructing its salary system. We also talked about the All Nations Returnees Conference (AN) which will be held in March next year and about the responsibilities which JCFN would need to carry in the future. Meeting of the staff's financial needs is vital for carrying out JCFN's ministry and purpose. The financial board members worked very hard on this. Next year, we are going to focus our efforts on the work of AN from the financial point of view.
AN will be a first-time experience. We hope returnees from all over the world will come to this conference. The center of JCFN's work is in North America, though in Japan there are many returnees from all over the world. They are learning the world of the Bible by experiencing overseas life and cultural differences. They have experienced unexpected difficulties or trials, and they now live in Japan. I believe that God has a deep plan in this, and I also hope it will come to be a benefit for the churches in Japan. JCFN has a new task and responsibility.
As last year, the Equipper Conference will be held in North America again this year. Its theme will change to "peace" from "reconciliation". The role of the staff is to arrange for many volunteers and for producing the next group of leaders. In Japan, JCFN has put its emphasis on fellowship in small groups and training leaders.
Rev. Durston and Ms. Kuroda talked about the days of JCFN's foundation when it was called "Urbana-kai". There were many sacrifices and a sense of life being offered as a grain of wheat. We had a time of reaffirming the huge responsibility, the solemn role which is given to us, and our hope for the future.

Why did I get involved in JCFN? I think it was the answer to my prayer.
One day, I got challenged when I was listening to a sermon. Quoting Bill Bright's words, the speaker said, "There are 3 different responses to revolution (God's revolutionary work): those who notice it, those who notice, but not join it, and those who join it.
When revival comes to Japan, I do not want to miss noticing it. I do not want to live without knowing it. And when revival comes to Japan and I do know it, I do not want to be a bystander. I do not want to watch it coolly from outside. When revival comes to Japan, I want to live right in the middle of it and experience it ? that has been my prayer and desire. I want to live right in the middle of God's work and experience the Lord's work. Meeting JCFN was one of the answers to these prayers.
Ever since the Honolulu Conference in 1995, I had gradually begun walking with JCFN My work place moved to Tokyo, so the focus of my life also moved there. From then on, I started to help in JCFN's ministry as a core member. At that time, the Japan office did not yet exist, and there were no staff working in Japan, so the ministry consisted of many volunteers.
I was led to become one of the executive committee members of the Returnee Conference in 1999. I remember starting the ministry as a team with Eriya Takahashi (associate staff), Kana Hasegawa (former office staff), and Yuko Ozeki who, at that time, was just starting to visit churches before becoming a full-time staff.
At that time the "intercessory prayer meeting" in Tokyo changed its name to the JCFN Tokyo meeting, and Eriya Takahashi and Kana Hasegawa were leading it as coordinators. Hiroyuki & Mami Sasaki were also leading the JCFN Kanagawa meeting as coordinators. These coordinators wanted to have a joint meeting with Tokyo and Kanagawa, and then we were led to have a meeting called "Flame!", which is a joint meeting of JCFN Tokyo and JCFN Kanagawa. We have a worship time and the "Demae" (delivery) project to Utsunomiya and Fukuyama. Meeting with the members of the worship team there is still my big treasure.
In Kansai, the meeting was at risk of stopping, but then Yuko Ozeki who was living in Kansai area at that time, and Rev. Tomoyoshi Yamanaka who now is serving as pastor at Yokohama Onnuri Christ Church worked to start the meeting again.
Without formal staff in Japan, we had to strengthen relationships with churches to work together. I keenly felt the importance of my position as not just a volunteer but a member of staff formally appointed by JCFN. I asked the board meeting to set up a new position of associate staff and have served as one of them since 2001.
In 2002, I was led to retire from the company where I had worked and continued to serve as full-time associate staff, which was a tricky situation. However, in the Lord's wonderful leading, I was led to get married and have children. it was a big change for me, in comparison with the time when I was a single, not being able to pour my time, interests, and energy into JCFN ministry.
In 2004, God called me to become a full-time member of staff and I started visiting churches to raise financial support and prayer. It was a hard struggle; however, supported by many prayers, I joined the staff on April 1st, 2006.
When I became a staff member, my wife and I started studying at a seminary. I spent the two years of my first term with so many roles and responsibilities as JCFN staff, a seminary student, a student serving at a church, a preacher at a church which had no pastor, a husband, and a father.
After joining the staff, I actually started praying for guidance after my first term. Then, by the time of my second year on the staff, I started praying concretely, with the thought of focusing for a time on my seminary studies. To tell the truth, there were so many battles and troubles that I cannot write about them all in this article.
As I finished my first term, I finally chose to leave the work of JCFN for the time being and to focus on my studies at seminary. From the bottom of my heart, I thank all of you for your prayer and support.
From this April, looking for "financial support" as a full-time seminary student, I am starting out on a new road. My son also starts going to a kindergarten attached to a church close by this April, and all of my family steps into a new life-style.
I am hoping to finish my basic course and start specialized courses in the second semester. Now I have already taken some specialized classes, and especially in the ministry class, I am thinking through JCFN's ministry and finding myself assessing and reexamining it from a new point of view. I am concentrating on my studies, hoping to graduate in two years, then I will start praying for guidance once more after graduating from seminary.
I still do not know how God is going to lead me to live in the place where He is working, but in the midst of all this, I am hoping to walk with JCFN again. I appreciate your continued prayer and financial support.

Last year, again, I was working hard in the post of International Director. With much support from colleagues, I learned a lot and God has shown me much guidance throughout the year. This year, too, will be filled with trips, meetings, networking, and speaking engagements. I am excited about leadership training, the EC in America, the All Nations Returnee Conference in March, 2009 and its kick off meetings throughout the year in Japan. Without faith, we would not go far!
1) May God guide us and make us faithful without limiting His work or overestimating our ability.
2) May God equip me as a person with constantly renewed vision and passion from God, sharing and obeying them.
3) May God help me to manage time and health.

It's been already 4 years since I returned from the States. I have been able to see how God has protected all the work that JCFN has done and expanded the ministry in Japan. Meanwhile, JCFN Japan is in desperate need of more workers since Shinichi Kayama resigned from JCFN staff in order to devote himself to study at a Bible school at the end of last March. As for the Gotos, we are expecting another addition at the end of this year. All of us have been so much blessed by the new life in our family.
1) Despite lacking workers in the Japan ministry, we have so many things to do in our work. Please pray that God will grant us His wisdom so that we can do the things which are most necessary.
2) Pray that more volunteers and workers will be added.
3) Pray for the protection over my family, for my wife Mitsuyo, for the growth of my son Mel, and daughter Miri, and the new life in Mitsuyo's womb.

For me, there were two new things in the ministry last year: finance and weekly small group at home. It took more time than I thought to take care of all the financial stuff and I had a hard time finding the balance between ministry and administration, but I managed to work more efficiently after a year. As for the small group, God really blessed and gathered people, three people were led to Christ, and we have seen a lot of spiritual fruit. It also helped me to think out strategies for developing the small group ministry for JCFN.
Praise the Lord! This coming year, I have to prepare for two months maternity leave in the summer. So please pray for the preparation, such as making manuals and setting up an office environment at home. Also, please pray for the balance of raising a baby and doing ministry, so that my whole life will be used by God.

Praise to God for allowing me to know His Grace, Mercy, Hope and Power through?the third RC "Homecoming Kyushu".
I had to think through many aspects of?follow up for returnees through preparing for the conference.?
This year, I would like to ask to God for more guidance in the follow up of returnees, and to pray for them to abide in Him in Fukuoka. My hope is to encourage the Small groups because of the risk of losing their faith.

1) My ability to maintain good health as well as a balance between the work at church and the ministry to returnees. May God bless both ministries.

I thank God for His guidance in allowing me to preserve a good balance, working in my job and serving at JCFN. I lost my father last year, but felt much support and encouragement from JCFN, with staff attending his funeral.
As for small groups, numbers of participants are growing and we are building up good relationships with the small group leaders. It is my hope and prayer to have more new groups starting and also for already existing groups to multiply. My prayer request is for God to provide me with a good balance between my work and ministry at JCFN; good health; and wisdom to carry out the work.

God had done amazing things here 2007. We were struggle to continue to meet onece a month and not sure where we are going. But He told us to continue and meet together. So God brought returnees to Nagoya and started new things which was Small Group. That made returnee to be in the community.? So Both cerebration meeting and small group were good combination to follow up returnees. God is great connector.
Please pray for that we need God's wisdom to make network with chuches. We are going to introduce returnee ministry to Tokai area pastor's meeting and IPCN meeting this month.? So please pray for that. Thank you.

I became an associate staff last year. JCFN Japan office was started in one small section of KGK office few years back. Since then we've been keeping a good relationship with JCFN. About that time I came to realize that many have become Christians oversea and returning Japan every year and how important to follow up those who have returned.
Though I personally do not have any experience of studying abroad, I am hoping to be a part of this ministry as I help out the Japan office in the area of office administration management.

"For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and to reconcile both of them to God through the cross…Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household." Ephesians 2:14-19
ANRC: First joint conference by those Japanese churches and ministry organizations that receive the returnees, as well as Japanese churches and fellowship that are sending them home. Returnees from all over the world are the target for the conference. One can enjoy fellowship with friends that have returned from the same country or region. One can meet other returnees that currently live close-by. One can be encouraged by God's love. One can be an encouragement to Japanese churches. One can learn about the Japanese ministry overseas, and support it. One can receive God's vision through the Word. There are multiple ways to enjoy this meaning fellowship.
2009 marks the 150th anniversary of the Japanese Protestant history. However, Diaspora Network for the Japanese (a ministry for the Japanese dispersed overseas) began much before then. The Diaspora Network was a key figure in the publication of the Japanese Bible in Singapore.
Since the global network is ever developing, we sense the urgency of Japanese Christians partnering with Asian brothers and sisters to give impact for Christ as well socially. This new phase of ministry needs to be influenced by returnees mission. In Ephesians 2, Paul is encouraging Diaspora people to build the house of God and to start moving forward as united family of God where He dwells.
For those of us who have returned from the West, Asia, South America, Africa, and worldwide: Let us remember the magnificent Word, and re-experience it! That wonderful grace! And let us expand the prayer circle!
The All Nations Returnees Conference (AN) is scheduled for March 20th to 22nd, 2009 at Hotel Heritage near Shinrin-Kouen in Saitama prefecture. The theme is: "Bridging the World." Colossian 1:6 is the theme verse. The Bible promises that we will bear much fruit worldwide when we hear the Gospel that is God's grace, and truly understand it.
